Dan Lawson explains how he styled the cast for the latest episode, “Stoppable: Requiem For An Airdate,” including an easter egg significant to Diane Lockhart, as well as Neil Gross, a returning guest star from The Good Wife.
Costume designer Dan Lawson, the man behind your favorite characters’ styles since the premiere of The Good Wife, continues to dress the cast of The Good Fight in both timeless silhouettes and trendsetting ensembles.

Name an adjective to describe each woman’s style this episode.
What was your favorite look or piece from this episode?
The silk magenta, black and gold blouse by DVF (Diane von Furstenberg) that Lucca wore in the episode was my favorite piece. The blouse was unique in that it incorporated two prints, one in the body of the blouse and another one in the bow.
So clever how the placement draws the attention to Lucca’s face, despite the overall pattern, which tend to make the eye wander, but not in this case!
Breakdown this look:
Diane wears a St. John black-knit sheath dress with gold, silver and white paisley. I think this is a very bold dress that commands attention. It is also very sexy, showing every curve of the body.
Like the Lucca blouse mentioned above, the print is cleverly done in a way that directs the eye: the busy pattern is on the body of the dress, but disappears at the bottom, the top and on the arms, which draws the attention to the face.
It’s like you get to look at the “art” of the print and then you’re led to the face, so you can identify the sexy wearer of this great dress.
I finished the look with a magnificent statement necklace from PONO. The brushed silver, clear and matte gray links complimented the dress perfectly. Her earrings were pave diamond swirl shapes with a pearl center.

Diane is wearing an Akris teal blue wool crepe dress. Very chic and classic with a signature vintage marcasite dragonfly brooch.
Lucca is wearing this incredibly fun black-and-white outfit that consists of two patterns that work really well together. I love that Lucca is so adventurous with her clothes. The white silk blouse is by Reiss and I love it because of the higher neck. Very elegant. The skirt and the knit jacket are by Alexander McQueen.
Barbara is wearing a navy sheer dress with cranberry and silver metallic floral medallions. Such a unique dress by Lela Rose. The necklace is one of my designs from my collaboration with PONO called DL for PONO. It’s a double-strand necklace consisting of large iridescent teal beads with gray and amber smaller faceted beads.
Boseman is in one of my favorite suits of his, a Phineas Cole by Paul Stuart gray chalk striped peaked lapel wool suit. He wears a pink Thomas Pink shirt and a light heathered gray Phineas Cole by Paul Stuart double-breasted vest. His tie is a brick red with lighter red paisleys and small blue flowers. The pocket square is gold cranberry, and olive foulard wool.
Are there any fashion easter eggs in this episode?
Diane’s brooch is definitely one of my fashion Easter eggs from The Good Wife. This is one of my absolute faves and I love placing it on the chest in a way that points to Diane’s face.
Is there any symbolism behind Diane’s looks from this episode?
She starts in the teal blue Akris suit, then the St. John multi dress, followed by a gray silk robe, and, finally, a very strong and striking Armani red and white jacket.
I wanted that jacket to be a scene stealer for Diane. She holds all the cards in this scene and I wanted her wardrobe to follow, dare I say it? Suit!
Is there any symbolism behind the stark contrast of Lenore and Maia Rendell’s looks from this episode?
I think Maia and Lenore’s clothes are very different, both in color and shape. Lenore was in an Oscar de la Renta navy, off-the-shoulder sweater with large chiffon full sleeves.
Maia was in an olive stretch-knit, elbow-length sleeve dress that was very form fitting. I think, rather than the outfits telling a story because they are similar, which they aren’t, they are telling a story because of how dissimilar they are.
Lenore and Maia are in very different places in their lives right now, and at the root of it is a certain amount of distrust, especially on Maia’s part.
But I do think the colors are simply beautiful together.
This episode marks the return of two alumni from The Good Wife, attorney Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) and Chumhum CEO Neil Gross (John Benjamin Hickey). How did you approach dressing Hickey for Gross’ grand return?
I checked in with [Executive Producers Robert and Michelle] King and they said they wanted to continue Neil Gross’ character-defining, laid-back hoodie with a cool jacket look.
I love that we do that because it reminds me of people who find that style that works, or they think that works for them, and then wear it forever.
In his case, Neil is a bit of a tool, in general, and wearing a hoodie in nice businesses, especially at his age, goes right to the heart of his self consciously confident character.
